If you follow me on Instagram you may have noted that I get a lot of my nail vinyls and decals from Vinyl It Up. Recently Lizzie at Vinyl It Up reached out to me to see if I would be interested in swatching and reviewing her new endeavor, her own polish line! Of course I said yes!
The first collection of Midwest Lacquers is called Party Like Its 1981! As an 80s kid, born in 1981, I was extra excited about the Collection. So break out your slap-bracelets, blue shadow and crimper and take like a totally awesome trip down memory lane!
The collection consists of four bright, nearly neon creams and two totally awesome glitter toppers. They are all 5-Free as well. The formula in all the polishes was easy to work with, not too thick and not too thin. For all the photos in this review I used a basic base coat, two coats of lacquer and a top coat. Neons (or nearly neons) are notorious for being streaky or needing an "undie" - not these! They looked great with two coats, not streaky and great opacity.
Like Totally Rad! Lets jump in for the eye candy.
'Hello McFly' an orange cream and is inspired by the Back to the Future franchise, and Marty's bright orange bubble vest. I am not usually a fan of orange but this one I like! Its easy to work with, bright and cheerful!
'Tripendicular' A Neon glitter topperand will add a lot of 80's fun to any mani. It contains a mix of neon glitters, tons of blue shimmer, and neon pink micro flakies. This is such a fun glitter topper. I love the base of the polish with the blue shimmer and also its consistency is thin so its easy to just paint a few layers to get the mix and amount of glitters you desire. No sponging needed. I particularly LOVE it over Hello McFly.
'Truly Outrageous' The bright purple creme was inspired by Lizzie's favorite animated rocker chick from the 80s. Hopefully SOME of you are old enough to know that I'm talking about GEM. If you don't, please go Google that. This bright purple cream is probably my favorite of the collection. Sort of a bright orchid color, creamy and shiny!
'Like, For Sure' is a bright bubblegum pink creme inspired by the age of the Valley Girl. And its like totally awesome!
'Aloha, Mr. Hand' is named for her favorite 80's slacker, Jeff Spicoli, and his infamous checkerboard Vans. It is a Black and White Topper packed full of black, white, and silver glitters in different sizes of Squares, hexes, and dots, ultra fine black and silver holo glitters, as well as Aqua and purple shimmer. Again its the base of this glitter topper that really makes it special! Easy to work with and the shimmer is just so lovely. Its like totally tubular over like any of the polishes!
'What's Your Damage' a blue creme is inspired by a favorite cult classic movie 'Heathers', and the blue, drain cleaner cocktail. If you read my blog often you know that I love blue! Its my favorite color. This is such a great blue for your collection.
There you have it! A new indie to love. Whether you are a 80's kid like Lizzie and myself or not you will love these colors for summer!
