What's Indie Bath - Valhalla Soap Company

Welcome to my first post of a new series inspired by all the amazing indie (independent) bath and body products out there. I've always loved lotions, scrubs and bubble baths as I'm kind of a girly girl (incase you hadn't noticed). Hey I even worked at Bath & Body Works for a stint in high school just for the discount! So join my multi-part, smell-erific journey into the world of indie bath & body.

My first feature is on Valhalla Soap Company based in Sutherlin Oregon. This family owned business has been making homemade, artisan, cold processed soaps for over 23 years. I was introduced to this business via a awesome group on Facebook that inspried this series called - What's Indie Bath? (get it? whats in-the bath). Shout out to all the awesome people in that group!

Valhalla recently reopened their online store following the holidays and the day they opened, I jumped in! This past weekend I received my goodies pictured below. Both my mom and I were impressed with the packaging and how good everything smelled and there were lots of extras thrown in to try! I also thought it was amazing that they included a small informational piece on their business and philosophy. What a great touch to help their new customers understand their brand!

Their products are awesome not only for how they smell but for what they don't contain. They have no parabens, no formaldehyde, mineral oil, sls, phthlates, or propylene glycol. Lets also talk scent for a minute. Valhalla offers a wide variety of scents. You can view their master scent list here on their website.

I have the following products that I put to the test for you! Yes, its a dirty job but someone's got to do it!

Cocoa Butter Body Whip

Our decedent Cocoa Butter Body Whip is a delicious treat for your tired, dry, weather weary skin. Only consisting of a few simple ingredients, and whipped up to a light as air consistency, it melts on contact with the skin and soaks in quickly without leaving a greasy feel behind. A little goes a long way so don't over do it even though you will find yourself wanting to slather your entire body in bucket loads of this yummy dessert for your skin!!

(scent) Elf Cakes- Made from scratch by Mrs. Klaus warm, right out of the oven, soft and covered with sprinkles, Elf Cakes! Most call them cookies. But at the North Pole they call them Elf Cakes because they smell so amazing they must be magickal ;)

I was in love with the scent when I first opened the container. I saw that the body whip had been piped beautifully into its container (as you can see above). I feel like small attention to details like this really make a product extra special. The product totally melted between my hands and on my skin as it was applied. I think I over did it my first use because it just smelled so good. A little really does go a long way.  It didn't leave a greasy feeling after soaking in a few minutes and the lingering smell was not overwhelming. The verdict: would definitely buy again!

Botanical Body Cream

Packed with Botanical Extracts this rich, creamy night cream glides on smooth and soaks in relatively fast compared to most greasy creams found in the handmade market today. High in anti-oxidant benefits found in White Tea Extract which are reputed to contain 10x the anti-oxidants of green tea. And loaded with Vitamin A found in the added Carrot Seed Extract believed to help restore, regenerate and revitalize aged skin. A little goes a long way!

* Paraben Free* Formaldehyde Free* Botanical Enriched* White Tea Extract - High in Anti-oxidants
* Carrot Seed Extract* Vitamin Enriched - Vitamin A* All Skin Types

(scent) Lime Sugar Sorbet- Beautiful green layers of fresh squeezed limes and sweet notes of sugary syrup entangled around a white background of delicate white musk and petite white flowers.

I received a sample of the Botanical Body Cream with my order in a citrusy Sugar Lime Sorbet. I really liked this lotion. It was thick but felt light and it absorbed faster on my skin then the Cocoa Butter Body Whip. I also really liked the feeling of my skin with this lotion. The verdict: would definitely buy again!

Bubbling Bath Melt

Drop one of our Bubbling Bath Truffles in the tub and you’ll be relaxing those tired muscles in a tub full of silky bubbles as your skin soaks up the yummy goodness of pure organic cocoa butter and your senses inhale the lush aromas of your favorite scents. Drop one or two (depending on size of tub and preference) in the bath under faucet for bubbly, fizzy, silky luxury.

(scent) Malted Milk Chocolate- The wonderfully wholesome, old fashioned comfort scent of sweet cream milk combine with rich dark chocolate on a whispery base of warm, buttery almond and vanilla.

These cute bath melts are divine. I used one in my tub and the malted milk chocolate smell filled my bathroom. These do not produce a big bubble bath, just a small amount. Not the amount you would get from a bubble bar, but your bath will be silky sweet! I'm a chocolate lover so I was loving this smell.  My skin felt like it had a dose of sweet moisture when I was done. I have a very big tub so next time I am going to use two melts. Here is a video of the amount of bubble from the melts (via Valhalla's YouTube)

This is really only an appetizer to the menu Valhalla Soap Company offers and there are a ton of things I still want to try. This includes whipped soaps and whipped scrubs and their handmade soaps.  Valhalla offers soaps for the whole family: Warriors (men), Shield Maidens(women), Bairns (the kiddos) and Clansmen (unisex). They also sent me a sample of their Strawberry Cream Puff soap which smells great.  Can't wait to use it! I really want to get the Leprechaun Farts soap (watch for the restock because it sold out fast!), bubbling bath play dough for my toddler as well.  They also offer a Calendula soap which is excellent for sensitive skin.

I thought the products were well priced and a good value! Additionally, Valhalla Soap Company offers great customer service and attention to detail.

  7. I am a huge fan of soaking in a hot bath to wash away the day. trouble with that is it dries out my skin horribly in the winter months. I'm always on the look out for products to help with that. These are some great one that I'm going to have to check out.

    1. I think the key to baths is to fill them with stuff to add moisture to your skin. I hope you will stop back as I'm trying some other bath bombs and truffles to write up next week!

    1. no worries Roselynn - I'm going to be reviewing some bath steamers so those without tubs can get in on the action too. Of course no tub is needed for body lotion!
