Julep August My Maven Review

Julep August My Maven Review

Have you discovered Julep yet? Its a subscription nail polish and beauty company based in Seattle that I joined back in April of this year. Before I signed up for my first FREE box I had probably 10 polishes in all - fast forward to today and well ... Lets just say I have a LOT more then 10, 20 or even 40....But I plead the 5th on an actual number.

Anyways I was excited to get my box yesterday and dug right in!

(LtoR: Sushmita, Katie, Neha, India)

Katie (Classic with A Twist) ($11.20 maven / $14): Katie is described as an “orchid iridescent chrome”. This polish is stunning! Its chrome and shiny and more purple then pink vs shown in the picture.  I used this last night and found it to have a good formula and did not streak (which many chromes do). Totally opaque in two coats.

I'll be sure to update this post as I test out the other lovely polishes in this collection that I've chosen.

Neha (Bombshell) ($11.20 maven / $14): Neha is described as a “sari magenta shimmer”.

India (Boho Glam) ($11.20 maven / $14): India is described as a “freshwater blue shimmer.”

My Add-Ons for the month included:

Sushmita - ($6.00 as an add-on regularly $11.20 maven / $14):  is described as a "Pashmina pink silk" and has a silk finish.  If your not familiar with this type of polish it does remind me of silk. Its not glossy and doesn't require a top coat.

Nail Masks - These funny little nail "mittens" "Keep thirsty nails hydrated with these nutrient-rich masks. Each packet contains 10 slip-on masks that deliver vitamin E, aloe, collagen, shea butter, and botanical oils to your nail beds and cuticles. Plus, they’re touchscreen-friendly—feel free to text and tweet while you treat." Oh I will Julep don't you worry! I feel like these will be great when I'm on a flight or something to pass the time. Otherwise I don't know when I have 20-30 min to wear them.

Mystery Bombshell Polish - Ironically I'm usually able to find out what the mystery polish is by the time my box arrives, but this month the mystery remained (perhaps few Mavens actually added it this month). When I opened my box guess what was missing? You got it, the now very mysterious mystery polish! Gah! I called Julep and talked to an awesome gal in customer service who tried to find out what the polish was supposed to be (but alas could not). To make things right she let me pick any polish I wanted for free :) The first thing that popped in my head was Queen Anne - the anniversary polish to celebrate Julep's 3rd birthday.

Queen Anne (It Girl) ($6.99): Queen Anne is described as a  “lilac confetti micro glitter.” I can't wait to get it and try it on.

Free Gift for 3 Add Ons

Julep has been offering a bonus gift for taking three add ons during the Maven selection window. This month it is their blank canvas eye primer.  Some folks have been reporting getting two of these babies - I alas received only 1 (but it was free and more then I had before, right)? #FirstWorldProblems

I used this this morning and will have to try it more before giving it a thumbs up or down.  Its going to be tough for this product to top my love for Motives Eye Base. Haven't heard of eyeshadow base? Then you are missing out my friend! It helps conceal and prime your lids to get the best color and staying power from your shadow. It works - I can't live without it.

Extra Goodie: This month’s bonus item was a little screen cleaner.  You can stick it to the back of your phone and use it as needed to clean your screen.  It was also advertising Julep’s new iPhone app, for which they are providing extra "Jules" if you download it.  I've had it for a few months already and while you can organize your monthly box on it you can't shop on it.  If I was Julep I'd turn it into a shopping app like Etsy and Amazon have done.  But that could be dangerous!!

In addition to new polishs Julep also releases a new beauty item as well. The last few months its been products for the summer like body scrubs and lotions. This month its new eye liners! They claim to be waterproof and offer 10+hours of wear. Save 30% with the code GLIDERPERK at checkout.  I have their Kajal eyeliner which is double ended and features both a brown and a black in one.  I carry this around with me daily. The new collection feature more colors and "easier application".
